We introduce the Responsible AI Initiative: a community of researchers, students, and other enthusiasts based in Prague, dedicated to examining the ethical dimensions of artificial intelligence. We bring together individuals passionate about guiding AI development in ways that benefit society and reduce potential risks. With members from diverse backgrounds, we foster collaboration and dialogue to promote responsible innovation in AI and related technologies.
Our Mission
Our primary aim is to educate ourselves through a series of discussions on interdisciplinary topics related to AI development, including:
- Understanding of AI with explainability methods
- AI policy and regulatory frameworks
- AI safety principles and practices
- Fairness and bias in algorithmic systems
- Environmental impacts of AI technologies
- Privacy and security concerns related to ML
- Philosophical questions around AI and human values
- Professional ethics in technology development
Recognizing that many of these topics extend beyond our technological expertise, we actively seek to engage with experts from other domains interacting with AI, such as philosophy, ethics, social sciences, and policy.
Our Activities
Public Events
We organize (irregular) public events at the premises of Czech Technical University, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, at Charles Square 13 in Prague. These seminars typically feature:
- Presentations on key topics in responsible AI
- Panel discussions with experts from various disciplines
- Open debates on current AI developments and their implications
Research on Explainable AI
Together with researchers from CETE-P, we examine what is a correct way to assess explainability techniques from regulatory, normative, and technological perspectives.
Community Building
Beyond our formal events, we work to build a community of practice around responsible AI development. We believe that ethical considerations should be integral to AI research and development, not merely an afterthought.
Our Approach to Responsible AI
We view Responsible AI (RAI) as an umbrella term encompassing multiple dimensions:
- Ethics and Fairness—Ensuring AI systems don’t perpetuate or amplify societal biases and injustices
- Safety and Alignment—Working to ensure AI systems behave as intended and align with human values
- Governance—Exploring the impact of appropriate regulatory frameworks (such as AI Act) and institutional oversight
- Trustworthiness—Building systems that are transparent, explainable, and deserving of human trust
- Philosophy and Value Systems—Examining deeper questions about consciousness, agency, and values
- Environmental Impact—Considering the resource consumption and environmental footprint of AI
- Security and Privacy—Protecting sensitive data and ensuring systems are resistant to attacks
Rather than seeing these as competing concerns, we believe in a holistic approach that recognizes the interconnected nature of these dimensions. While different stakeholders may prioritize different aspects, all are necessary components of truly responsible AI development.
